The next season will see Colin mature and his views grow.

Summary

  • Bridgerton fans are wondering how Season 3 will approach its central duo's romance.
  • Colin has to realize that love isn't just an abstract concept.
  • His desire for Penelope will help him see the difference between friendly affection and passionate love.

When Bridgerton premiered in 2020, it immediately won over audiences. Though set in the Regency era, the show's depiction of romance is highly modernized, as polite banter and graceful ballroom dancing are generously sprinkled with passionate love-making. Season 1, which focused on the budding romance between Daphne Bridgerton and Duke Simon Basset, is a prime example.

Season 2, on the other hand, was much more subtle in its portrayal of the love between Anthony and Kate Sharma. It focused more on the depth of their feelings for each other and built up an electrifying tension and desire between the two.

With Season 3 set to follow the love story of Colin Bridgerton and his old friend Penelope Featherington, many viewers are at a loss as to what to expect from the new installment. Will it be as steamy as Season 1 or as intense and deep as Season 2? Our prediction is that it will be both, and here's why.

Sexual Awakening

Unlike Anthony and Benedict with their numerous affairs, Colin Bridgerton was portrayed as almost asexual in the first two seasons of the Netflix drama. In particular, the scene in which Marina tried to rekindle his love for her by kissing him was the most cringe-worthy of the entire series. And since Colin believed he loved her, it was even more awkward to watch.

With Penelope, however, Colin is much more comfortable. And he's genuinely attracted to her, which suggests that he wants her. That's why the third Bridgerton brother has to realize his lust for Pen in order to understand that love is not just a concept he can keep in his head and believe in.

Penelope: A Lover or a Friend?

Penelope and Colin have a complicated history as they have been friends for a long time, although Pen had a crush on Eloise's brother. Unfortunately, things turned sour when she accidentally overheard Colin dismissing her as a romantic partner in front of his friends. In his defense, Colin saw Penelope as a friend and considered his affection for her to be purely innocent.

For this reason, Colin must desire Penelope in order to see her not just as a friend, but as a viable romantic partner. In other words, Colin's lust for Pen will help him learn what love is, that it's not just a pleasant feeling you get when you're in someone's presence, but also an insatiable longing to be physically with that person. So in Polin's case, lust and love aren't mutually exclusive.

Do you think Colin will be much more sensual in season 3?
