These dramas are sure to keep you entertained while you wait for the new season to arrive.
Based on the series of novels of the same name by Alf Wight, All Creatures Great and Small is an extraordinary drama about the staff of a veterinary clinic who work in the face of the global events that shook the world in the 20th century.
But the fourth season won't return to our screens until January 7, 2024, so we'll have to find something to occupy our time until then. Here's a list of equally great period dramas also available on PBS.
5. Victoria (2016, 3 seasons)
As part of PBS's Masterpiece anthology, there is a series called Victoria that is sure to appeal to fans of Downton Abbey-style period dramas. As the title suggests, the series follows the lives of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as they navigate their romantic and family lives against a backdrop of court intrigue and global political machinations.
4. Death Comes to Pemberley (2013, 1 season)
What would happen if you combined the works of Jane Austen and Agatha Christie? This was the question posed by the author of P.D. James, who wrote the novel Death Comes to Pemberley, a creative extension of the story of Pride and Prejudice with elements of a murder mystery. The TV adaptation turned out to be no less intriguing.
3. Miss Scarlet and The Duke (2020, 3 seasons)
If you’re still not tired of period dramas set in 19th century Britain, we highly recommend you check out Miss Scarlet and The Duke, the fourth season of which will be released alongside All Creatures Great and Small. The plot revolves around Eliza Scarlet, who carries on her father's work by running a detective agency in Victorian London. She is assisted in her investigations by her childhood friend, Inspector William Wellington, nicknamed The Duke.
2. Mr Selfridge (2013, 4 seasons)
The story of All Creatures Great and Small begins in 1937, and even then many Brits knew of an amazing department store in London called Selfridges. Mr. Selfridge tells the story of Harry Gordon Selfridge, the creator of the famous Oxford Street store, from 1908 to 1928.
1. Grantchester (2014, 8 seasons)
If you can't get enough cosy dramas after ACGAS, Grantchester is a great option, taking viewers from Yorkshire to equally picturesque Cambridgeshire in the 1950s. The plot revolves around an Anglican vicar involved in the investigation of mysterious murders.
