Looks Like Sweet Magnolias is Dead Set on Making Dana Sue Unattractive

Everyone is beautiful. We just need to know how to accentuate our best parts and downplay our shortcomings. In this sense, actors are extremely fortunate as they have entire teams of professionals to help them create a stunning look. However, even the most experienced stylists can fall short sometimes.

For instance, the stylists of Sweet Magnolias seem to struggle to do a proper job.

The Netflix series tells the stories of three friends from South Carolina – Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue – as they maintain their friendship through the years as they navigate their complex adult lives. Each of the three characters is extraordinary in their own way and resonates with audiences in different ways. However, the last friend on the list comes across as the least attractive – and it seems like it's the stylists' fault.

Dana Sue Sullivan is the chef and owner of Sullivan's Restaurant. Portrayed by the gorgeous Brooke Elliot, whom you might remember from the series Drop Dead Diva, she is adventurous and optimistic, preferring to experience life first-hand. Dana is a voluptuous woman who embraces her physique – indeed, she's great just as she is. But it seems the stylists on the Sweet Magnolias set really struggle to bring out the best in her.

The character is frequently dressed in baggy clothes that entirely obscure her curves. Furthermore, the use of accessories like belts is quite troubling – these are placed on the wrong body part, the mid-torso specifically, which makes Dana Sue appear plumper than she really is. Take, for example, the infamous black belt Dana wears from time to time. It's so wide it completely ruins her look.

We aren't suggesting that Dana Sue is dressed this way on purpose to make her the least attractive character on the show – indeed, she is arguably one of the viewers' favourites. But it certainly seems like it. Hopefully, things will change for Dana when season 3 of Sweet Magnolias premieres on 20 July, and we'll have a chance to see Brooke Elliot in all her glory.
