Liam Payne Has a Surprising Spoons Phobia, Here's How It Affects His Life
The former One Direction member has one very strange phobia.
Like his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik, Liam Payne became a huge star back in the early 2010s, when One Direction was rocking the charts with their hit pop songs.
After the band broke up, Payne failed to reach the same heights as Styles and Malik, regressing into a minor celebrity. But despite his obscurity these days, lots of One Direction fans still follow Payne's life — and recently, many were surprised to find out the musician suffers from a rather unusual phobia.
While other people have "normal" phobias such as the fear of heights, animals, or the dark, Payne prides himself on being afraid of… spoons. That's right — the singer has koutaliaphobia, or fear of spoons, one of the rarest phobias known to mankind.
Although Payne's phobia does not prevent him from using spoons at all, as many of his fans assumed after learning about his problem, he does despise the very thought of them. By Payne's own admission, he can't use any spoon rather than his own, and only if he is sure that no one has touched it before.
But what started this peculiar phobia?
According to the star, his fear of spoons began at school, where many naughty students, including Payne himself, were often forced to stay after school to wash the dishes. This activity caused Payne to develop an aversion to dirty spoons, as he never knew what other children were doing with them.
Ever since this traumatic experience, the musician has not been able to use spoons in restaurants and cafés, opting for his own spoon he'd bring from home.
People tease the singer for having such a strange phobia and ask Payne if he had toured the world with his one and only spoon tucked in carefully in his pocket. But many fans support their beloved singer, wondering just how disgusting those school spoons must have been to have caused such a huge impact on the celebrity's life. Poor Liam!
