The actress was bummed out about how things ended for her character.

The ending of Game of Thrones was a major letdown for many fans, particularly because of Cersei's anticlimactic death.

Actress Lena Headey shares the fandom's sentiments and has recently revealed how she would have preferred for her character to have died.

It's indisputable that HBO's Game of Thrones stands out as one of the most influential and celebrated shows of the past decade. Fans have consistently been impressed by the caliber of each season that George R. R. Martin and the show's creative team rolled out year after year. Nonetheless, it's well-known that the final installment of the fantasy epic received mixed reviews, with many fans criticizing the writers for not providing a satisfactory conclusion for beloved characters.

While Daenerys' death was especially contentious, the fate of Cersei Lannister, the series's main antagonist, also got a significant amount of fan backlash. From her debut in Season 1, viewers were eager to discover how this villain would ultimately fall. However, the direction the writers took with her story left many puzzled.

No Fanfare

Given the numerous enemies she made in Westeros during her tenure on the Iron Throne, it was widely anticipated that one of her many betrayed allies would play a part in her final moments. Yet, the writers chose a sudden and somewhat underwhelming death for Lena Headey's character during the Battle of King's Landing.

Fans were dismayed that such a pivotal character was given a forgettable end. Headey herself has not shied away from voicing her discontent with the show's chosen ending, sharing her personal vision for Cersei's demise.

'You start trying to write the story yourself. And Maisie Williams and I would fantasize about a Cersei and Arya showdown; that she would come back as Jaime. That was our dream. But they made different choices,' Heady said.

Indeed, it would appear that Headey had hoped for an intense showdown between her character and Arya, culminating in Cersei getting killed by someone she once wronged.

It goes without saying that fans loved Headey's concept and expressed their regret that the showrunners pursued their own direction for Cersei's demise, which, unfortunately, many still think completely missed the mark.
