Law & Order: SVU Season 25 Can't Afford to Miss on Bensler Opportunity Anymore
Dear writers, it's time to listen to the shippers at last.
TV series fandoms are resilient and patient, and those fans who ship their favorite characters are even more so. The shippers are ready to wait years for romantic plot twists, hoping to see the characters finally feel the spark — and more often than not, they end up crying quietly and generating headcanons when their expectations are dashed.
This must ring a bell for many fans of the Law & Order franchise. Viewers have been waiting — just think about it — almost 25 years for the writers to listen to them bring together the two central characters of both SVU and OC, Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler.
Right now, Law & Order fans are especially frenzied due to the crossover finale that left us on a big cliffhanger. But lo and behold, SVU and OC have been renewed, and we won't forgive the writers if Bensler doesn't become an ultimate endgame for the characters.
Bensler has been a major ship in Special Victims Unit since the very first seasons, thanks to the great dynamic Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni built between their characters. Besides the fans, even the actors' fellow cast members are swooning over Benson and Stabler's chemistry.
However, since Elliot had a wife and children, the two detectives maintained a professional and friendly relationship, even if it was overly warm and intimate at times. Fans were hugely disappointed when Meloni exited the show in 2011 after 12 seasons, with his character leaving the Unit.
But thankfully, 10 years later, viewers were given a glimmer of hope when Stabler returned and got his own spin-off, which saw the character return to New York City and join the Organized Crime Task Force. Even though the new storyline was terribly tragic, with the mob trying to assassinate Benson but eventually killing Stabler's wife, fans were happy to see the characters' long-awaited reunion, which also opened up an opportunity for their romance.
The Organized Crime Season 3 finale escalated when Benson and Stabler finally confessed their feelings for each other. However, the creators decided to drag it out painfully and delay the long-awaited kiss.
That's why we're hopeful that their love story will be properly explored in the upcoming seasons of Law & Order. Sadly, SVU Season 25 and OC Season 4 will probably not be released in the near future due to the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes — but fans are fine to wait a bit more if Bensler finally becomes a thing in the new installments.
