Netflix is doing a January clean-out, and five superhero flicks are on the chopping block. If you have a soft spot for capes, chains, or angry green guys, you might want to bump these up the watchlist. The broader picture: more than 100 titles are rotating off the service in January 2026, and a few of these are heavy nostalgia plays.
The five superhero movies leaving Netflix in January 2026
- Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023) — Jason Momoa returns for the swan song of the now-retired DCEU. It never matched the first movie’s heat and wrapped its theatrical run with a $440 million worldwide haul, per Box Office Mojo. It’s also the final movie in that specific DC continuity.
- Blue Beetle (2023) — Xolo Mariduena’s Jaime Reyes got his big-screen debut here, directed by Angel Manuel Soto. It introduced the character within the DCEU era, right before that universe was sunset.
- Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011) — Nicolas Cage’s second and final go-round as Johnny Blaze. This capped Sony’s short-lived Ghost Rider run. If you’re keeping track of the corporate-universe shuffle, no, this is not part of the MCU.
- Hulk (2003) — Ang Lee’s intensely stylized take was the character’s first full-length big-screen headline. Also not MCU. Different studio, different continuity, different vibe.
- Kick-Ass 2 (2013) — The sequel doubles down on the DIY superhero chaos. If you came for the irreverence, this is your last call on Netflix.
A quick note for the continuity watchers: both the 2003 Hulk and Spirit of Vengeance live outside the MCU, and Aquaman and Blue Beetle belong to the DCEU that has since been retired. Licensing windows are doing what licensing windows do — Netflix keeps adding new superhero titles while others cycle out.
Beyond the cape crowd, a handful of other notable departures are tagged for January too: 8 Mile, Doctor Sleep, Hancock, Terminator 2, and Mad Max: Fury Road, among many others.
The heads-up comes via What’s on Netflix and was also flagged by SuperHeroHype. Bottom line: if any of the above are on your 'I’ve been meaning to get to that' list, January is your deadline.
