The first half of season five of Yellowstone produced few sparks outside one heated on-screen moment between Lainey Wilson (Abby) and Ian Bohen (Ryan).

In the scene, the cowboy shares a tender kiss with the character, a situation in which Wilson explained was not quite what fans might anticipate.

Sure, it’s never a bad thing to share a moment locking lips with a hunky rancher. However, according to Wilson, the situation was entirely new and bizarre to the 30 year-old who is more accustomed to singing her heart out on stage than getting intimate on a TV show.

Consequently, when preparing for the kissing scene, Wilson was incredibly nervous about the experience.

'[Ian] clearly knew this was my first rodeo, and I knew it was not his,' the singer-actress revealed on a podcast discussing the first kiss.

Wilson is relatively new to acting yet has been performing as an entertainer since a young age. Despite it, preparing for an up close and personal scene in front of an entire production team is not as easy as it sounds.

For this reason, Wilson elected to lay down some ground rules with her co-star to ensure the makeout footage didn’t take it too far. As a result, no tongue was among her stipulations with Ian Bohen. Thankfully, Bohen was more than responsive and did everything conceivable to help “The Heart Like a Truck” singer feel comfortable in front of the camera. The result, as most audience members agree, was explosive.

Be that as it may, Wilson wouldn’t go as far as comparing makeout scenes in TV shows to a real-life kiss. Yet, despite the awkwardness, Wilson and Bohen have since gone on to become really good friends.

In fact, Wilson described Bohen as a 'groupie' of her music, and that he regularly makes appearances in support of her work, including the recent 2023 CMT Music Awards.

'[Ian has] become a champion of mine and one of my biggest cheerleaders,' Wilson noted, adding that the 46-year-old actor frequently introduces people he knows to her music.

Bohen, who is a self-described music junkie, has invited the opportunity to befriend a real life singer-songwriter.

For now, Wilson (like the rest of the Yellowstone cast and crew) remains in limbo as the rest of season five has been stalled due to ongoing contract negotiations between Kevin Costner and Paramount. Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is reportedly prepared to move on with Matthew McConaughey, in the event Costner does not return.
