The main villain's role in the series and future Phase 5 has apparently been reduced.

For many, the first season of Loki proved to be the best thing Disney and Marvel had done in a long time. Serving as a transition between Phase 4 and 5 of the MCU, the series delivered an entertaining story about everyone's favorite God of Mischief and was also fundamentally better than most of the superhero content of recent years.

Storytelling, acting, and directing — all aspects of Season 1 were on top of the game, keeping old fans excited and attracting lots of newcomers to the universe.

But as in the case of many major projects, Loki was not without its share of scandal. In the middle of one of them was Jonathan Majors, who played supervillain Kang the Conqueror. Due to the actor's harassment allegations, lots of viewers either turned away from the show altogether or wanted to see Majors out in Season 2. However, judging by the new season's trailer, the creators decided to sit on the fence regarding that issue.

On July 31, the trailer for Loki Season 2 was released. In the new season, Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius will try to deal with the consequences of creating a multiverse, which has clearly taken a toll on the anti-hero, as their timeline was erased at the beginning of Season 1.

In addition to Loki and Mobius, the trailer features other key characters including Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) and Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw). There is also a new character, Ouroboros, introduced in the trailer. He is played by Ke Huy Quan, best known to audiences for his role in 2022's Everything Everywhere All at Once.

However, the main surprise of the trailer was another reveal — Jonathan Majors' Kang will be there in Season 2. After the actor was accused of sexual harassment and abuse in late March 2023, his management company and PR firm dropped him and several of his projects were canceled. Disney and Marvel, for their part, did not address the issue in any way, simply ignoring the scandal.

Nevertheless, judging by the trailer, Marvel tried to minimize the screen time with Majors, as his character appears only for a second in the whole clip. Of course, the trailer most likely gives us a glimpse into the very first episodes, but it's already clear that the show tries to avoid focusing on the controversial actor.

The first episode of Loki Season 2 is scheduled for release on October 6, 2023.
