Kristin Chenoweth’s Queen of Versailles Fast-Tracks Its Final Curtain
Last call: Kristin Chenoweth’s The Queen of Versailles is ending its St. James Theatre run earlier than expected, closing in December as tickets vanish ahead of the holiday rush.
If you were planning to catch Kristin Chenoweth in The Queen of Versailles on Broadway, the clock just sped up. The show is now closing earlier than its already-moved-up closing date, and tickets are flying as people rush to get in before the lights go down at the St. James.
The short version
- The Queen of Versailles will now play its final performance on December 21, 2025 at the St. James Theatre (per Entertainment Weekly).
- It was previously set to end on January 4, 2026.
- Way back at the start, producers had planned to run through March 29, 2026.
- The show officially opened on November 9, and after rough opening reviews, the timeline got trimmed. Now it has been pulled up again, just before the Christmas–New Year holidays.
So what happened?
Producers already shortened the run once not long after opening, and now, barely two weeks after announcing that earlier-than-expected end date, they have moved the final bow up again to December 21. It is a fast pivot, and yes, the tighter window is pushing demand — tickets are moving quickly as the new closing date approaches.
Chenoweth, on the sudden goodbye
Kristin Chenoweth — who both produces and stars in the musical alongside F. Murray Abraham — addressed the news in an emotional Instagram video, clearly proud of the work and realistic about how tough it is to keep a new show afloat right now.
"I know some of you may have heard that the Queen of Versailles on Broadway is closing. I just want to say that I'm so proud of this new art that we've created, and it's getting harder and harder to do."
She also talked about how many recent shows came and went before audiences could find them, thanked everyone who has already made it to the St. James, and encouraged anyone still on the fence to come before the final curtain.
What the show actually is
The Queen of Versailles is adapted from Lauren Greenfield's 2012 documentary about Jackie and David Siegel, the Florida billionaires who set out to build a palatial, Versailles-inspired mega-mansion — and then ran headfirst into the 2008 financial crisis. On stage, that story comes with music by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz, a book by Lindsey Ferrentino, and direction by Michael Arden.
Bottom line: if you want in, you have until December 21. After that, this one is gone.
