Frozen and The Good Place star Kristen Bell is bringing the giant hammer to the Sonic-verse, joining Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog 4 as the voice of fan favorite Amy Rose.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 just grabbed its Amy Rose, and it is a very on-brand choice: Kristen Bell will voice Sonic's hammer-swinging pink powerhouse. If you stuck around through the Sonic 3 credits, you already knew Amy was inbound. Now we know who is bringing the attitude.

Amy finally steps into the spotlight

Amy Rose technically popped up already. The Sonic 3 mid-credits sting teased two heavy hitters from the games: Metal Sonic and a giant hammer silhouette that fans instantly pegged as Amy. She did not speak in that tag, which left the door wide open for this reveal. On screen, Amy is the franchise's cheerful do-gooder with zero patience for nonsense, a temper when pushed, and yes, a massive hammer she absolutely knows how to use. Amy also has a long-running crush on the Blue Blur, so expect at least a little flirty chaos in the mix.

Bell is no stranger to voice work (hello, Anna from Frozen), and with more Frozen on Disney's to-do list, she is clearly not done juggling animation megafranchises.

Who is back for Sonic 4

  • Kristen Bell as Amy Rose
  • Ben Schwartz as Sonic
  • Idris Elba as Knuckles
  • Keanu Reeves as Shadow
  • Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails
  • Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik
  • Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone
  • James Marsden as Tom Wachowski
  • Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski

Behind the rings

Jeff Fowler, who has steered all three films so far, is back in the director's chair for chapter four. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher (via Original Films) and Toru Nakahara continue producing. Paramount planted a flag on March 19, 2027 for release.

The first three Sonic movies have already zipped past a combined $1 billion at the global box office, so the studio clearly sees more rings to collect.

The read

Bringing in Amy is overdue in a good way, and Bell feels like a clean fit for the character's bounce and bite. With Metal Sonic also lurking after that Sonic 3 tease, Sonic 4 is stacking familiar pieces: fan-favorite heroes, a marquee villain, and a director who has kept this thing surprisingly nimble. Plan accordingly — the hammer is coming down in 2027.
