Kit Harington Reveals the Harry Potter TV Role He Wants
Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington wants in on HBO’s Harry Potter TV series — and he’s already picked the character he’d play.
Kit Harington wants in on the Harry Potter reboot. Like, really wants in. The HBO series is moving ahead, and while nothing is official on his end, he is publicly waving his wand from the sidelines.
So what would he play?
"I’d take on any of them. I’ll be a background extra, I don’t care. I would love to be in that."
That’s Harington to Variety, and honestly, the enthusiasm kind of rules.
He is already in the Wizarding World (just not on TV)
While the HBO show is still assembling itself, Harington has already slipped into Potterland via Audible’s new Harry Potter audiobook series, which launched last month with The Sorcerer’s Stone. He turns up in the Chamber of Secrets installment as Gilderoy Lockhart. Yes, that Lockhart — the preening, disaster-prone celebrity professor Kenneth Branagh played in the films. Harington says it was an easy yes because he loves the character, calling him fun and entertaining, but also kind of tragic in a way that feels painfully familiar if you work in the arts.
The fandom runs deep
Harington isn’t pretending here; he grew up with the books, reading them at the same age Harry was in each one, then circling back later through Stephen Fry’s audiobooks. He says he knows the series cold and fully owns being a book nerd about it.
The Audible cast is stacked
Audible did not skimp on voices for this rollout. Harington is one of many heavy hitters joining in, including a mini Game of Thrones reunion:
- Keira Knightley as Dolores Umbridge
- James McAvoy as Mad-Eye Moody
- Matthew Macfadyen as Voldemort
- Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape
- Mark Addy (GoT) as Hagrid
- Gemma Whelan (GoT) as Professor Sprout
- Iwan Rheon (GoT) as Professor Lupin
Where the TV reboot stands
HBO’s series is chugging forward, but Harington is not attached. Yet. If they are looking for someone who can talk the talk, walk the walk, and happily show up as a nameless wizard in the back of a Great Hall scene, Jon Snow is clearly available.
