One of the most dramatic moments turned out to be pure improvisation.

Amid the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes that have put many projects on hiatus or off the air, the release of Season 2 of the hunger-inducing and consistently stressful comedy-drama series The Bear proved to be a real boon for fans. The new installment continued to delve deep into the story of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) as he tries to run a restaurant business in Chicago.

Besides the main plotline, the recent season offers incredibly relatable stories of strained family relationships, overcoming mental trauma, and finding one's place in life. Particularly heart-wrenching was one of the final scenes, which, according to actress Molly Gordon, was completely improvised.

The following part of the article contains major spoilers, so we strongly recommend that you watch the season before reading it.

In the final episode of The Bear Season 2, after being stuck in a walk-in for over an hour in freezing temperatures, a stressed-out Carmy starts talking to himself about how he doesn't deserve happiness, which only hinders his career. His monologue is overheard by Claire, played by Molly Gordon, with whom Carmy just started to build a romantic relationship.

The scene becomes even more painful when, after Claire leaves, Carmy finally listens to the voicemail in which Claire confesses her love to him.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Molly Gordon elaborated on the scene, explaining that the voicemail moment was pure improvisation, which added to the overall drama.

'When I first read Episode 10, the voicemail was never going to be in it. As I joined the season, Chris and Jeremy and I were talking through things. Jeremy and I had a connection — he's such a wonderful person and so available as an actor and a beautiful scene partner — and what I think happened is that Chris wanted to make that part more meaningful and add more to the episode,' the actress said.

Gordon also noted that the walk-in scene was 'heartbreaking' for her, as her character knew Jeremy hadn't heard the voicemail yet and would listen to it while trapped in the refrigerator.

As it turns out, Jeremy Allen White heard the message for the first time while filming the scene, so the heavy emotions we saw were very genuine. Additionally, Gordon shared that the moment was incredibly tragic yet cathartic for her, as Claire chose to preserve her pride and emotional state by simply leaving the restaurant.

Hopefully, both Gordon's Claire and White's Carmy will be able to find happiness in future episodes of the show, whether together or apart. In the meantime, we are waiting for FX to announce The Bear's renewal for Season 3.
