Kevin Feige Stands Firm: No Special Treatment for Harry Styles’ MCU Return
Marvel boss Kevin Feige is shaking up the MCU's future, leaving Harry Styles’ Eros and the Eternals hanging in the balance—but there’s still hope for their return, Feige hints in a new roundtable discussion.
Here we go again: Marvel is making moves behind the scenes, and fans are basically still in the dark when it comes to the fate of the Eternals – especially that post-credits tease with Harry Styles as Eros. If you’re wondering if Styles will ever pop back up in the MCU, join the club.
Are the Eternals Even Still a Thing?
With Kevin Feige (the big boss over at Marvel Studios) practically reworking the MCU’s future, the Eternals have slipped off the radar. Seriously, it’s been almost five years since their movie, and we’ve heard precisely nothing about them returning. In a recent press chat, Feige didn’t exactly deliver hope, but he didn’t close the door on these characters either. Here’s the gist of what he said:
'There are plans for some and there are opportunities for all. It’s about finding what the right moment is. Some, maybe we’ll never see again. Some, maybe we’ll see soon...Who knows? What I love about it is as much about the actors as it is about the characters. It’s as much about our enthusiasm and excitement to work with those actors, which is how almost all those came about – but we will not alter a storyline just to include them simply because they have been seen in the past.'
In plain English: Marvel might use these characters if it makes sense—and if they're excited about the actors. But don’t expect any track-jumping just to squeeze in Harry Styles because he's Harry Styles.
Honestly, Did Anyone Expect Harry Styles to Stick Around?
Styles showing up in Eternals as Eros (aka Starfox) surprised a lot of people, mostly because Marvel hyped up his cameo like it was gonna mean something. But as of now, nada. And get this: back in 2022, in his Rolling Stone interview, Styles pretty much said he was done with acting for a while, despite his contract supposedly covering multiple Marvel movies. Not the most promising forecast—especially since the Eternals haven’t been mentioned in any serious way since.
Why Marvel Might Need the Eternals (Eventually)
To look at the bigger picture: as the MCU barrels toward mega-events like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, there’s plenty of reason to bring back heavy-hitters like the Eternals. The franchise is clearly setting the X-Men up to anchor their more 'grounded' stories, but with all the multiverse and cosmic-level nonsense, Marvel needs a cosmic team too. Eternals could fill that role after Secret Wars—if Marvel actually remembers they exist.
The Eternals At a Glance
- Movie: Eternals
- Director: Chloé Zhao
- Major Cast: Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani
- Rotten Tomatoes Scores: 47% (critics), 77% (audience)
- Box Office: $402 million
So, not a wild success—though, to be fair, Marvel’s output has been uneven lately.
Could Eros Turn Up in She-Hulk Season 2?
If a proper Eternals sequel feels like wishful thinking, there’s at least one weird angle for Styles’s Eros to show up in the MCU. In the comics, Starfox had a pretty infamous run-in with She-Hulk: she defended him in court when he was accused (yikes) of using his powers to influence people's emotions in less-than-consensual ways. If Marvel wanted to go for something bold (and maybe a bit controversial), a storyline like this would fit right into She-Hulk—assuming there’s ever a season 2. (Spoiler: there’s no official renewal as of now.)
The Bottom Line
For now, the Eternals are collecting dust somewhere in Marvel’s IP vault. Will Harry Styles ever return in cosmic armor? Maybe, but it doesn’t sound like anyone at Marvel is losing sleep over it—or pushing for it just because it’s Harry Styles. Still, with the MCU stretching into multiversal chaos, don’t count anyone out just yet.
Eternals is streaming on Disney+ in the US, for those who feel like revisiting one of Marvel’s stranger detours.
