The actor will reprise the role for the last time.

Western is a sort of genre that you either like or hate, so in this respect, Paramount Network's Yellowstone is a true rarity — a hit Western series, beloved by various audiences all over the world.

It's tense and genuine, the drama is compelling, and the characters evoke sympathy, but first and foremost, it's the series' cast that made it so popular with viewers.

Led by Kevin Costner, the legend of the Western genre known for his roles in Dances with Wolves and Hatfields & McCoys, the show has spanned five seasons, with the last being on a hiatus at the moment. Amid the rumors that the actor has quit Yellowstone, he is said to be stipulating his return to the second half of the fifth installment.

Back in February, several sources reported that Costner demanded his time on the set of Yellowstone be limited to a single week, while the studio wanted to book him for another four to seven weeks. Costner's character, John Dutton, is absolutely essential to the plot, so the show can't go on without the actor on board for the whole time of shooting Season 5 Part 2.

While the results of Costner's negotiations with Paramount haven't been announced publicly, the filming is scheduled to begin in August — just in time to finish the new episodes for the late autumn and winter release window, which is when the series usually airs. This gives us hope that the actor and the production team have reached an agreement, and we'll see John Dutton back on screens in the series' finale.

Creator Taylor Sheridan decided to wrap up Yellowstone after Season 5 due to Costner leaving the project, but he still has numerous spin-offs to work on and delight fans with. The showrunner is now developing a new Yellowstone series starring Matthew McConaughey, which is set to premiere as early as December this year. The show will reportedly feature a number of beloved characters from the parent series, but John Dutton won't be one of them, of course.

Kevin Costner is currently busy with the post-production of his upcoming movie, Horizon: An American Saga, which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. His new project will reportedly consist of four chapters in total, so Costner is already working on the second Horizon movie, while the first one is expected to hit the screens in the fall of this year.
