Kaley Cuoco Reveals Surprising Twist Behind Big Bang Theory Sex Scenes
'All of a sudden our characters were sleeping together every other second.'
Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast, Kaley Cuoco said she's sure Chuck Lorre increased the number of sex scenes she shared with Johnny Galecki in TBBT after their real-life partnership ended.
The couple were in a relatively long-term relationship, dating for two years during the show's first season, before splitting in amicable circumstances. In fact, Cuoco opened up about the huge crush she had on Galecki when they were filming the pilot, saying she was 'obsessed with him.'
Luckily for the show, they remained friends after they split. And Cuoco said they're 'closer today than (they) ever were' - which is a good thing, because their on-screen relationship continued right up until the end of the show.
She told Dax Shepard: 'When we broke up, it was obviously a little awkward for a minute.' She went on to say that she remembered in the weeks that followed 'when Chuck was writing these episodes where suddenly our characters were sleeping together every other second.'
The couple didn't complain and just got on with filming the scenes as instructed, with the Flight Attendant actress dismissing it as nothing more than eccentric behaviour on the part of the TBBT creator.
She described how she and Galecki discussed the fact that their characters' sex lives had taken a turn for the better. Asked by Shepard if she thought this was an attempt by Lorre to get them back together, she replied, 'No, just to f**k with us.'
She still loves and respects Lorre as much as ever and said it made her 'love him even more.'
The Big Bang Theory was by no means Cuoco's first acting role. She had spent 15 years in film and TV before landing the role of Penny - including starring roles in Ladies Man, Charmed and 8 Simple Rules.
Since ending her 12-year run as Penny, she's appeared as herself in comedy Bang! Bang!, Lip Sync Battle and Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever. as well as her role in The Flight Attendant and a one-off part in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
But whatever her future career brings, it's unlikely to be anything more awkward than acting out sex scenes with the man she's just broken up with. Still, imagine if they had to shoot those scenes and they didn't talk.
