After Peacock’s abrupt end to Based on a True Story, Kaley Cuoco reflects on the dark comedy’s run and weighs whether the series could still find a second life.

Kaley Cuoco is finally saying out loud what a lot of fans have been wondering: what happens now that Peacock pulled the plug on Based on a True Story? Short version: it is canceled, she wishes it had gotten more love, and while she thinks that might be the end, she would jump back in if someone actually called.

Where things stand

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Cuoco addressed the show’s abrupt exit and the chances of a comeback. There are no talks happening for Season 3. Her read right now is that the series is likely finished. That said, she made it very clear she is game if a door opens.

'I think it might be done. But if someone called me and said we are doing a third, I would do it in two seconds. It was one of the joys of my life.'

How she feels about the run

Cuoco didn’t just star; she also executive produced, and she sounds genuinely proud of the show. She appreciated everyone who found it and vibed with its very specific tone. In her words, it never quite landed the way she expected, but she still thinks it was really funny and special. She also loved the creative freedom on set — the team got to be weird and go for it, which is increasingly rare on a streamer comedy-thriller.

Could it still find an audience later?

She thinks so. Cuoco pointed out that streaming has a long tail, and people stumble onto offbeat shows months or years after the fact. Her take: these series do not really die, they just wait to be discovered. If Based on a True Story gets that second wave, maybe interest builds. And if the right person makes the right call? She is in.
