Just How Much of a Glow-Up Will Penelope Get in Bridgerton Season 3?

Based on Julia Quinn's novel Romancing Mister Bridgerton, Season 3 of Netflix's Bridgerton is just around the corner with the long-awaited love story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. Just like Anthony Bridgerton before them, the protagonists of the upcoming season will both undergo a transformation for their romantic arc.

And it looks like Penelope's glow-up is set to be on a whole new level.

You see, Penelope's transformation is more than just a makeover. She is 18 at the beginning of the show, and even though her mother is pushing her to make a social debut and officially enter society in Season 1, Penelope still feels and acts like a child.

The best word to describe Pen is 'wallflower.' While her shyness and near invisibility allow her to 'infiltrate' the high society without being noticed and write her gossip column as the enigmatic Lady Whistledown, it also takes away from her appeal as a potential love interest for the gentlemen of the ton.

On top of that, Penelope lives under the pressure of her mother and wears outfits that Lady Featherington chooses for her — and these outfits are nothing to marvel at, really. They are a collection of tacky, gaudy canary-yellow dresses cut high across the bust, making Pen look heavy and frumpy, and these are usually paired with big bows or flowers for hair and chunky jewelry.

Fortunately, all of this, as well as Penelope's insecurity, is set to be gone in the new season.

The very first look at Penelope, shown in the video announcing the start of filming for Season 3, has left viewers in awe.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays the character, is seen in the video with an impressive updo and mind-blowing makeup. The sweeping bangs and smoky eyes are definitely new for the character and complement the actress' natural beauty.

The sneak pics revealed on ITV's This Morning show also proved that Penelope's Season 3 wardrobe will be replenished with sleek dresses of muted colors, making her and Colin look like a Hollywood glamor couple. Along with the change in her style, the character will also undergo an inner transformation, and we already see Penelope exude confidence in the pictures.

Pen's personal growth is the most important development because, in order to have a compelling love arc, she must stop being a shy child and become a strong, independent woman. Nicola Coughlan has teased this already in an interview with E! News, saying that her character will 'finally become a woman in season three and come into herself.'

We all love a good glow-up story, and Bridgerton fans are certainly here for Penelope Featherington's stunning transformation. The release date for the new season is yet unknown, but we are hoping it will come out later this year.
