Just How Faithful Disney+'s Percy Jackson Adaptation Will Be?
New teaser and author of the original tease a powerful trip down memory lane.
For many schoolers growing up in the 2000s, Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & the Olympians novel series was the ultimate reading experience that got them through tough times and became one of their fondest childhood memories.
Now, those memories are coming rushing back thanks to the new trailer for Disney+'s original series based on Rick Riordan's books, which lands on the streaming service on December 20. The trailer offers a glimpse into Percy Jackson's story as he goes from ordinary boy to demigod, son of Poseidon, on a quest to retrieve Zeus' stolen thunderbolt.
Fans are ecstatic
The new trailer is proof of what fans have been hoping for since the news of the fantasy project in the works at Disney broke: Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to be a faithful adaptation of the books.
Disney's Percy, his friends Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase, and the depiction of their adventures bring back the best childhood memories, which is a cause for celebration for fans who have already had a few unfaithful adaptations to frown upon.
‘I'm going to continue rewatching this trailer until it reaches a million views maybe even a billion!’ a fan commented under the trailer. ‘Percy Jackson fans including myself have waited too long for a faithful adaptation and I want to do my part as a massive fan to make sure this show does well! I can't even begin to describe my hype for this show! December please come quickly!’
Rick Riordan confident about new show
In addition to the promising first look teasers, the author of the original book series also confirmed that the new series will please his fans by staying as true to the source material as possible. He personally made sure of that.
‘We have been involved in the series since its inception,’ Riordan told EW. ‘So, I feel comfortable telling fans of the books who have been waiting — in some cases, decades — for this kind of faithful adaptation, that this is the one you've been waiting for.’
That certainly sounds promising, and with the sixth installment of the novel series coming out this month, it looks like Percy Jackson fans are in for a double treat this year.
