Jumanji Star to Voice Garfield as Paramount+ Greenlights New Series
Garfield is clawing back onto TV as Paramount+ orders a new 2D animated series from Nickelodeon Animation Studios, inspired by Jim Davis classic strip, with Lamorne Morris set to voice the lasagna-loving feline.
Garfield is heading back to TV, lasagna cravings and all. Paramount+ has ordered a new 2D animated series built straight from Jim Davis' classic comic strip, with Nickelodeon Animation Studios producing. And they just found their cat.
Garfield now sounds like Lamorne Morris
Lamorne Morris is voicing Garfield. Yep, Winston from New Girl (2011-2018) is stepping into the orange fur. Morris has been quietly stacking up interesting gigs lately, and the resume reads like someone who enjoys popping into big franchises, stealing a scene, and bouncing.
- He won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for playing Trooper Witt Farr in Fargo Season 5.
- He played the Heater Repair Man in 2019's Jumanji: The Next Level and is coming back as that same character in the next Jumanji movie, which is filming now and slated for December 2026.
- He shows up this May as Robbie Robertson in the upcoming Spider-Noir series.
- Other credits: Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016), Game Night (2018), The Christmas Chronicles (2018), Bloodshot (2020), Night Shift (2023), Not Another Church Movie (2024), and Saturday Night (2024).
What the new Garfield show promises
Paramount+ is leaning into the classic vibe here: the look is 2D, and the tone is straight from the comics. They put it like this:
"The series features the chonky feline at his finest, with each episode featuring the pop culture icon's signature sarcasm and hilarious lackadaisy."
Dave H. Johnson (Middlemost Post) and John Trabbic III (SpongeBob SquarePants, Middlemost Post) are executive producing. That pairing suggests a show that knows how to be silly without losing its bite — which fits Garfield's whole deal.
Release timing
No premiere date yet. For now, it is officially happening and officially moving, but details are being held.
While you wait
The 2024 Garfield Movie is streaming on Netflix. Chris Pratt voices Garfield in that one, with Samuel L. Jackson as his dad. A sequel is already in the works.
As for Morris, the man is out here reprising Heater Repair Man in Jumanji, landing an Emmy for Fargo, and now taking on one of the most recognizable grumps in pop culture. That is range — and honestly, a great fit for Garfield's deadpan.
