Julia Quinn Endorses Polin Over Benedict in Bridgerton Season 3
It looks like Netflix's most controversial decision was supported by the author.
Most Bridgerton fans agree that Shonda Rhimes has pulled off a marvelous magic trick, turning Julia Quinn's romance series, which many claim to be cheesy and not particularly well-written, into an enchanting, relevant, and hugely popular romance show.
Nevertheless, the Bridgerton novels still have a lot of fans who viciously lambaste Netflix for every little deviation from the original storyline, arguing that the books are obviously superior to the adaptation.
Bridgerton's first two seasons followed the order of the novel series, telling the love stories of Simon and Daphne and then Anthony and Kate consecutively, so the third one was expected to focus on Benedict and Sophie's relationship. However, when it was revealed that Colin and Penelope, the couple from the fourth book, would be the main characters of Season 3, fans of Quinn's books did not hold back their disapproval.
Surprisingly, it looks like Julia Quinn herself is not against Shonda Rhimes' decision to change the order of the books for the adaptation, arguing that she never interferes in the production on a creative level, as the Netflix producers have already proven that they know how to turn her books into a blockbuster show.
'I think they had just felt they had laid down so much groundwork because we already know Penelope. We haven't met Benedict's love interest. I suppose people are gonna say they could have introduced her, but the fact of the matter is, we haven't. So, I think they felt it was time. And what I try to tell people is, look, once a character has their season, we don't see them as much, right? So, if you love Benedict, you want him to wait as long as possible,' Quinn said.
Apparently, the author decided to let the die-hard fans of her books relax a bit, rightly noting that having Benedict spend more time on the show is a good thing, but he'll certainly get his time to shine in a later season.
For now, it's time for fan-favorite Penelope and Colin Bridgerton to steal the spotlight in Season 3, which is expected to hit Netflix at some point later this year.
