A brand-new Jujutsu Kaisen manga just landed in Shonen Jump, and the way its creator described it has fans bracing for a wild ride that might not last long.

Jujutsu Kaisen is not done expanding its cursed little universe. The next move: a brand-new manga spin-off that steps outside Japan and pokes at the rest of the world. And yes, there is an 'aliens' curveball in the official pitch. More on that in a second.

What this new thing is

It is called 'Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo,' and it pairs original creator Gege Akutami as writer with artist Yuji Iwasaki. The series will roll out weekly on the Shonen Jump website, sliding straight into the magazine's lineup rather than as an occasional one-off. The hook is clear: take jujutsu sorcery global and look at sorcerers beyond Japan.

Akutami has already set expectations for scope and length. In comments posted to social media and translated by Crunchyroll, he called it a compact, short-term run designed to last about half a year and land around three volumes. He also tossed in a very Jump-core aside about cancellations.

'A short-term, compact serialization. It will be about a half-year of work (if not canceled), and around three volumes.'

Shonen Jump's own blurb is wonderfully chaotic, and the part that will make fans tilt their heads:

'Sorcerers and aliens! New series Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo by Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki joins the weekly lineup! Japan isn't the only place with jujutsu sorcerers!'

Quick refresher for the uninitiated

The original Jujutsu Kaisen ran in Shonen Jump from 2018 to 2024 and spun into a monster-hit anime. The story centers on Yuji Itadori, a ridiculously strong high schooler who gets pulled into the world of jujutsu sorcery to manage Cursed Energy, which humans unknowingly generate through negative emotions. Yuji becomes the unwilling host of Sukuna, the King of Curses, and spends his days fighting Curses and other nasties who weaponize that energy for awful things.

So what is Modulo actually about?

The specifics are still under wraps. What we do have is the premise: it shifts focus to jujutsu sorcerers in other countries. A new promo image teases what looks like the series' new lead, but character details and plot beats are being kept quiet for now. The 'aliens' shout in the official copy is either a wild swerve, a tease, or both. Given Akutami's taste for left turns, do not rule out anything.

  • Title: Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
  • Creators: Written by Gege Akutami; art by Yuji Iwasaki
  • Format: Weekly serialization on the Shonen Jump website
  • Scope: Takes jujutsu sorcery global; explores sorcerers outside Japan (and, apparently, aliens)
  • Length: Planned as a short run of about half a year; roughly three volumes, per Akutami
  • Status: Chapter 1 is live now and free to read on Shonen Jump
  • Context: The main Jujutsu Kaisen manga ran 2018–2024 and was adapted into a massively popular anime

Bottom line: Akutami is opening a new lane, keeping it lean, and having some fun with the premise. The international angle makes sense. The 'aliens' bit? That is the spicy part. First chapter is up now if you want to see how weird this gets from page one.
