Josh Brolin Takes On Exes, Contract Killers, and Total Mayhem in Thunder Road's Next-Level Action Comedy Mister

Josh Brolin wakes up drenched in blood and spoiling for war with exes, contract killers, and everyone in between in Wade Eastwood’s Mister, a next-level action comedy from Thunder Road.
Josh Brolin is apparently working through some things on screen. After fending for his life against a swarm of children in Zach Cregger's 'Weapons', he is now set to take on exes, best friends, and assorted hired guns in an action comedy called 'Mister'. This one comes from Bright White Light and Thunder Road, the John Wick shop, so you can safely expect some clean, mean mayhem.
What is 'Mister' actually about?
Per Deadline, the setup is simple and messy: a man wakes up in a strange house, covered in blood, with no idea what just happened. As he pieces together who he really is, waves of contract killers tied to his past start showing up. We are not talking random heavies, either. The hit list includes former partners, old friends, and yes, the exes. To survive, he pairs up with his estranged daughter, who has drifted into the family business herself. The catch: they have to actually fix their relationship while not dying. Easy.
Behind the camera (and why that matters)
- Star: Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men; Dune: Part One; Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery)
- Director: Wade Eastwood, making his feature debut after years of second unit/action directing on Mission: Impossible - Final Reckoning, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and Jumanji: The Next Level
- Writers: Nicki Cortese and Nick Inglis
- Producers/Companies: Bright White Light and Thunder Road (the John Wick studio)
- Production plan: Principal photography is targeting early 2026 in Spain; additional casting is underway now
The director on why Brolin is the guy
"Having the opportunity to collaborate with Josh is everything I could have hoped for. His presence and gravitas define Mister and bring the film to life in every way. What excites me most about this project is the depth of the characters and complexity of their relationships, which allows me to build action around story, without ever losing the intensity the genre demands."
That 'build action around story' line is exactly what you want to hear from a career action specialist stepping into the big chair.
Cast watch (and a little speculation)
The daughter role is not announced yet, but the search is on. Given the premise, that casting is going to set the movie's tone as much as Brolin does. Who would you pair him with for maximum sparks and minimal therapy bills?
In the meantime, you can catch Brolin in Rian Johnson's 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery' alongside Daniel Craig, Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Thomas Haden Church, Jeffrey Wright, and a few more familiar faces.
File this one under: violent family bonding, Spanish edition. And if you are keeping score at home, surviving an onslaught of exes and contract killers sounds only slightly harder than brunch with them.
