Josh Brolin is stoking the fire for Sicario 3, insisting the long-delayed third chapter is still on the horizon despite years of uncertainty—and hinting the wait will be worth it.

File this under: projects that refuse to die. Josh Brolin is still talking about Sicario 3 like it could happen any minute... even though, yeah, it has absolutely not happened any minute.

"I keep hearing that it's right around the corner. I know it's there. When we do it, I don't know when that is, but I know it's there," Brolin told The Hollywood Reporter, joking that they can't wait too long or "we'll have walkers."

If you've been following the on-again, off-again saga, Brolin's latest comments are very much in line with the recent pattern: cautious optimism with a side of self-aware eye-roll at how long this has dragged on.

He also tried to explain the delay with a metaphor that was basically: the corner is huge and the steering wheel barely turns. Translation: development is slow and weird. At one point, even Brolin told people he didn't think Sicario 3 would ever happen. That pessimism seemed to poke the bear, because producers Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill, and Trent Luckinbill chimed in soon after to say the movie was still in play.

  • THR check-in: Brolin says the movie is still alive in development, just taking longer than anyone expected. He's into it, but jokes about aging out if they wait too long.
  • The Playlist, April 2024: Brolin said it was getting "closer."
  • Producers weigh in: Black Label Media's Molly Smith and Thad Luckinbill have suggested the project is close to moving forward; Trent Luckinbill has been part of those conversations too.
  • Happy Sad Confused podcast, August 2025: Brolin admitted he'd once said it would never happen, then walked that back after hearing from the producers, adding he'd "just heard recently that it's very, very real."

Worth noting: there's still no official start date, no director locked, no confirmed creative team announcement. So for now, it's a lot of behind-the-scenes chatter and hopeful noise from the people who would be in it. But compared to a year ago, the momentum sounds less hypothetical and more... almost tangible? Let's call it cautiously almost-real.
