Jonathan Majors Uninvited to 2023 Met Gala, but $20M Avengers Salary Should Sweeten the Disappointment
Following his recent arrest on suspicion of domestic assault, it's now been confirmed that Loki star Jonathan Majors will not be attending the 2023 Met Gala in New York.
But it's not all bad news for the California-born actor. Because he's getting paid $20 million – which includes back-end compensation for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
It's worth noting that Majors denies all allegations against him and says he has video evidence that completely exonerates him.
Nonetheless, he's already been dropped by his management company Entertainment 360 and his PR representatives The Lede Company. And has now been uninvited from next month's Met Gala which is to be co-chaired by Anna Wintour, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, and tennis legend Roger Federer.
To be fair, the term 'uninvited' is being officially described as a mutual agreement between the star and the Met Gala organisers, but let's imagine for a moment that it was them that instigated this move, not Majors.
Since his arrest three weeks ago, it's reported that other women have come forward to make allegations of historic abuse at the hands of Majors.
It's a story that looks set to rumble on, with pictures emerging of the alleged victim of the recent assault out clubbing after it took place – and Majors' insistence that his driver will testify that he's innocent.
Official documents also appear to indicate Majors was defending himself during the incident as opposed to being the aggressor.
What we can say for certain, though, is that the actor – who played Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – won't be attending the star-studded event of the year at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This year's fundraising event is being held 'in honour' of legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld who passed away in 2019.
As always, fans from around the world will be tuning in to see the stars arriving and making their way into the event via the red carpet.
But they won't be seeing Jonathan Majors who, according to your point of view, could either be sitting at home rueing his behaviour, or counting his money and feeling pretty chuffed with himself. Although, it remains to be seen whether Marvel will stick by him if further complaints come in or if he gets convicted. So, don't be surprised if the role of Kang ends up being played by an alternative actor in the near future.
