Paramount+ just dropped a major status update on Mayor of Kingstown season 5 — the Jeremy Renner-led crime drama’s final chapter — landing barely three months after season 4 wrapped its 10-episode run.

Paramount+ just put a clock on Mayor of Kingstown. Cameras are rolling on Season 5 in Pittsburgh, and this run is the end of the line for Jeremy Renner's prison-town pressure cooker.

Season 5 is officially underway — and it's the last one

Production has started on the fifth and final season, about three months after Season 4 wrapped its 10-episode sprint. The show is closing up shop with a proper sendoff rather than a fade-out, which is how you want this series to go out.

New player, serious heat: David Morse joins as an FBI hammer

David Morse has signed on as a series regular, playing Russell Hardy, a veteran FBI agent sent to Kingstown. The character's entire vibe is 'clean up the mess by any means,' which, in this town, is a great way to make enemies fast.

"In Season 5, in the wake of Tracy's murder and the vengeance visited upon Callahan by Mike and Kyle, FBI agent Russell Hardy arrives in Kingstown searching for the 'fugitive' Callahan. A true lawman, Agent Hardy threatens to unearth all of Mike's sins and secrets, and disrupt Kingstown's tenuous balance of power."

So yes, the fallout from Tracy's death and the brothers' retaliation is going to keep detonating. If Mike thought he could juggle the gangs, the cops, and the feds, Hardy sounds like the guy who shows up and cuts the wires.

Who's back, who's running it

  • Season 5 cast includes Jeremy Renner, Edie Falco, Laura Benanti, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, and Derek Webster.
  • Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, who also executive-produce.
  • Executive producers: Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, Christoph Schrewe, Wendy Riss, Evan Perazzo, and Keith Cox.
  • Showrunner: Dave Erickson.

The takeaway

Final seasons usually mean score-settling, and bringing in a relentless fed to poke at Mike's past is a sharp way to force it. Production's moving in Pittsburgh, the pieces are set, and if the logline is any hint, the last stop in Kingstown is going to be messy in exactly the way this show likes it.
