Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson’s Divisive Film May Be Recut With a New Ending
After a polarizing finale, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson’s 2025 film Die My Love could be getting a new ending, director Lynne Ramsay revealed at the Glasgow Film Festival.
Here is something you do not hear every day: after premiering at Cannes, a movie might get a new ending. Director Lynne Ramsay says she is considering a different final stretch for her 2025 drama 'Die My Love,' the Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson film that has been stirring up debate since its debut.
The rethink
Speaking at the Glasgow Film Festival, Ramsay said the Cannes cut came together under intense pressure and that she has multiple versions she is still mulling over.
'It was a real rush job.'
She also confirmed she shot alternate endings and is open to swapping one in.
'Maybe one of these days I'll get to that ending and I'll change it and she will save him from the burning forest.'
Where the movie ends now
Based on Ariana Harwicz's novel, the film diverges from the book in its finale. In the current cut, Jennifer Lawrence plays Grace, who bails on a disastrous homecoming party and torches a forest. Robert Pattinson's Jackson tears after her, trying to find her inside the blaze. One of Ramsay's unused endings flips that dynamic: Grace finds Jackson and pulls him out of the fire. It is unusual to hear a filmmaker publicly float an ending swap after a high-profile premiere, but here we are.
Reception so far
The ending has been a conversation-starter, and so has the film's downbeat, immersive mood. Critically, the movie has hovered in the mid-to-high 70s on Rotten Tomatoes — initially around 76%, and currently 78% from 49 reviews — while the audience score sits at 46%, with plenty of viewers pushing back on the choices the film makes.
The team behind it
Ramsay (Ratcatcher) co-wrote the screenplay with Enda Walsh. Alongside Lawrence as Grace and Pattinson as Jackson, the cast includes LaKeith Stanfield as Karl, Sissy Spacek as Pam, Nick Nolte as Harry, and Gabrielle Rose as Jen. Lawrence also produces with Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver. Producers also include Martin Scorsese, Andrea Calderwood, Thad Luckinbill, Trent Luckinbill, and Molly Smith.
What happens next
'Die My Love' premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, and Ramsay says she has alternate cuts on the table. No official word yet on which version will be the one most audiences see, but do not be shocked if the ending you hear about from festival chatter is not the one you get in theaters or on streaming.
