Jason Statham is set to take on his deadliest mission yet as The Beekeeper 2 promises a swarm of new, more dangerous villains, upping the ante after the original film’s box office success.

Get ready for more mayhem in 'The Beekeeper 2,' because apparently just one batch of tech-baddies wasn’t enough for Jason Statham’s angry beekeeper alter ego, Adam Clay. The sequel is officially underway, and if you thought the last film’s revenge-fueled rampage was already leaning into action-movie absurdity, well, the next chapter is dialing it up with even more enemies and a new director's bonkers vision.

Much Bigger, Much Weirder Villains This Time

So, what’s new? Instead of David Ayer (who did the first one), Timo Tjahjanto is stepping in behind the camera. He’s dropping hints that 'The Beekeeper 2' isn’t just going to add a couple of threats – it's practically turning Statham into a one-man wrecking ball up against a whole parade of new villains.

Here’s Tjahjanto's teaser for where things are headed:

'The script is so great, and there are so many new villains that are coming in the film... the villain element is going to be so unpredictable and colorful, and that’s what we want to do in the second film.'

He said that to The Direct, clearly excited about getting weird with it. Tjahjanto also told MovieWeb that the villains would have a "stylized" vibe – think characters that feel like they just walked out of an anime or manga. So, if you wanted 'John Wick,' but with Statham fighting a rogue’s gallery straight out of a graphic novel, that’s basically what we’re getting.

The Influences Are… Obvious

And if that isn’t clear enough: Tjahjanto is not hiding his inspirations, either. Talking to ScreenRant, he called this his 'Punisher' project in everything but name. In his words:

'If I can’t make The Punisher film, if the Gods of film aren’t allowing me to do a Punisher film yet, then I’ll turn Adam Clay into my own version of The Punisher... Statham’s got that stoic Frank Castle-esque quality.'

Honestly, that tracks. Statham’s whole thing in the first movie was cracking heads and mowing through tech crooks to avenge someone close, so cranking up the body count to Punisher levels seems on-brand.

Who’s Joining the Beekeeper's Warpath?

If you’re wondering about the cast, it’s not just Statham coming back to collect his paycheck (and probably dozens of bodies). There are a few new faces for him to punch or team up with:

  • Yara Shahidi
  • Pom Klementieff
  • Adam Copeland (yes, the wrestler also known as Edge)

No word yet if they’re new allies, new baddies, or just bystanders Statham accidentally throws through a wall. Given the director’s anime-tinged villain talk, I’m guessing at least two out of three will have some very dramatic fight scenes.

Mark Your Calendars (if you plan that far ahead)

If all this talk of bee-themed vengeance and Statham channeling 'The Punisher' has you excited, good news: you won’t have to wait forever, but it’s not exactly around the corner either. The studio is aiming for a release on January 15, 2027. So, plenty of time to rewatch the first one (or, you know, finally check it out if you skipped it).

If Tjahjanto delivers what he’s promising, 'The Beekeeper 2' could end up being one of those sequels that’s somehow even more ridiculous (and entertaining?) than the original. Stay tuned—it sounds like things are about to get a lot messier in Statham’s hive.
