Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan got the 007 question — and their answers couldn’t be more different. See how the Irish stars reacted when Extra TV asked if they’d sign on for the next James Bond.

Two Irish heavyweights got tossed the inevitable 007 question, and their answers could not be more different. Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan were out promoting their latest together when Bond talk came up. One of them leaned into chaos. The other said, basically, schedule says no.

So, would they do Bond?

Asked if they wanted in on the next James Bond movie, Keoghan didn’t hesitate about which side of the gun barrel he prefers.

'I don’t think I’d play James Bond himself, but I’d like to come in and do the villain. Just saying.'

Murphy cracked that Keoghan’s answer was a headline waiting to happen, then kept his own response short.

'I’m kind of busy.'

Worth noting: both guys know the current Bond brain trust. Steven Knight is writing the new 007 film, and he’s the same writer behind their latest project together. If you felt a little genre whiplash there, you’re not alone.

Bond 26, in brief

  • Development: The next James Bond film is in the works and positioned as the first under Amazon MGM Studios’ creative control.
  • Creative team: Denis Villeneuve is set to direct from a screenplay by Steven Knight, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing.
  • Who’s next as 007: The casting search is active, with names like Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Callum Turner floating around.
  • Timeline: Cameras are expected to roll late 2026 or early 2027, pointing to a 2028 release.

What Murphy and Keoghan are actually promoting

The two are out pushing Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a feature continuation of the long-running series created by Knight. Murphy is back as Thomas Shelby, and Keoghan plays Erasmus 'Duke' Shelby, Tommy’s illegitimate son. The film is now in select theaters and will hit Netflix on March 20, 2026.

Short version: Keoghan wants to chew Bond-villain scenery, Murphy’s calendar says otherwise, and the Knight connection makes the whole exchange extra fun. If Bond 26 sticks to that timeline, we’ll be arguing about who should wear the tux for the next two years anyway.
