It's Official, Season 7 of Young Sheldon Will Be the Last: Actors Heartbroken
The final season will premiere in the first quarter of 2024.
Summary
- Young Sheldon has resumed production following the end of the actors' strike.
- Set to premiere in mid-February, Season 7 will be the show's last.
- The sitcom's cast can't hold their tears because of the end of YS.
It's only been a week since the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, and as a result, many beloved shows have resumed production. CBS's NCIS, Ghosts and Young Sheldon are among the series the network has immediately resumed production on. Given their popularity, it is no surprise that they are already slated for a midseason release in February 2024.
Young Sheldon, CBS' now flagship sitcom following in the footsteps of its parent The Big Bang Theory, was in limbo after the WGA strike, with the cast standing with their writers even before their own strikes began. So much so, in fact, that the network remained silent on the show's return. But now, CBS has confirmed that the seventh installment of YS will be the sitcom's final, prompting fans and the show's cast to express their sadness at the poignancy of the news.
Young Sheldon Season 7 Will Be the Show's Finale
It has long been said that the seventh season of the TBBT spin-off will mark the end of the show, as its central character, boy genius Shelly Cooper, will reach the age when, according to his stories in the original series, he moves from his home in Texas to CalTech. However, many fans hoped that the writers would somehow circumvent this canon.
However, CBS has dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's with its recent announcement that the fourteen-episode Season 7 of Young Sheldon will be the end of the beloved story. According to the new schedule, the final installment of the sitcom will premiere on February 15 and conclude with a one-hour finale on May 16.
Bittersweet Memories
Following Sheldon Cooper, TBBT's most eccentric Nobel Prize winner, through his childhood and teenage years, Young Sheldon has been on the air since 2017. At the time of its debut, the main character was about ten years old, as was Iain Armitage –the actor who played him.
By 2024, Armitage will have spent eight years of his life on the sitcom which is why the actor is so obviously sad to say goodbye to Young Sheldon – he has shared with his fans on social media.
'In case you wondered, I love my family. There's about 200 more people who make [Young Sheldon] happen and I'm grateful for each of them. We will make the best 7th season we can possibly make – and behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears because I love all of these people so much,' Iain Armitage wrote in an Instagram post.
Naturally, the actor isn't the only one upset by YS's conclusion.
'Can't stop crying. My family forever!' Raegan Revord, who portrays Shelly's twin sister Missy wrote, in response.
Indeed, we'll all miss Young Sheldon immensely once it's over.
