It's Official: Netflix is Really Going for 2-Year Gap for Bridgerton Season 3
The platform's new announcement proves it.
October 25th marks 19 months since Bridgerton Season 2 premiered (March 25, 2022). And it looks like the wait for Season 3, which is set to focus on the romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, will be much longer than that.
In fact, we are looking at a two-year hiatus, judging by the latest news.
The Crown premiere announcement
Yesterday, the streaming giant announced the release dates for Season 6 of The Crown. I say dates in the plural because the 10-episode season will be split into two parts, with the first coming out on November 16 and the second a month later on December 14.
While the upcoming season is great news for all The Crown fans, it is nothing short of devastating for the Bridgerverse fandom. The thing is, after a leak from Netflix Portugal, many fans have been waiting for Colin and Penelope's story to unfold on our screens in December.
The date Netflix Portugal mistakenly posted, only to remove it later, was exactly December 14. While many viewers thought that the posts were edited because the date was revealed too early, it now looks like it was just the premiere of another period drama.
Let's face it, there's no way Netflix is releasing two flagship shows on the same day and in the middle of holiday content. We must bid the Bridgerton December premiere farewell.
What is the likely premiere date for Season 3?
What hurts fans the most is that Season 3 was apparently completed in May, before the WGA strike, and has been sitting on Netflix's shelves for at least five months.
We can assume that the big bosses first delayed the Season 3 premiere because they wanted to give the show's spinoff Queen Charlotte time to shine. And then the SAG-AFTRA strike broke out, and the stars weren't able to promote the new story, so it was delayed even further.
Besides, the race for profits should not be written off. For Netflix, entertainment is business, and Bridgerton is a moneymaker, so they want romance viewers to buy subscriptions in Q1 of 2024.
Since January is usually a slow month and is already packed with new releases, including the highly anticipated 3 Body Problem, it is very likely that Bridgerton will be pushed to February (a Valentine's Day tie-in, perhaps?) or even March, making the two-year hiatus nightmare a sad reality.
