The actor made the audience really wonder if a leopard can change its spots.

Summary

  • Loki, by far the best Marvel show on Disney+, wrapped up several days ago.
  • Tom Hiddleston spoke to Jimmy Fallon about his iconic character's long path.
  • The actor doesn't think any continuation would fit the show.

It's only been a couple of days since the last episode of Loki was released, but fans are still upset about the end of the beloved show. Since its premiere in 2021, Loki has been the most popular Marvel show on Disney+, with many viewers praising it for its impeccable and engaging storytelling. However, it has only run for two seasons.

Naturally, many fans would like Loki to have another season. But despite all the anticipation, it is highly unlikely to happen. Only recently, the show's star, Tom Hiddleston, gave a detailed explanation of why the series is effectively over.

A Farewell Interview

Just a few days after the premiere of the Loki finale, Tom Hiddleston paid a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about his Disney+ show. According to the actor, the Season 2 finale also marked the conclusion of his fourteen-year association with Marvel, which spanned six films and two seasons of the show. As a result, the episode contains many references to his previous projects under the studio's banner.

'In the finale, there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I've played,' Tom Hiddleston said of the conclusion of season 2. 'The episode is called Glorious Purpose. And if you remember, in the first Avengers film, Loki comes down to Earth, looks straight at Sam Jackson's Nick Fury, and I say, "I'm Loki of Asgard. I'm burdened with a glorious purpose."'

In Quest of Purpose

Throughout numerous Marvel films and two seasons of Loki, we have watched the titular character attempt to reinvent himself. In the Disney+ series in particular, Loki was finally made to believe that his understanding of purpose was 'a fallacy.' And that was what caused the most change in him.

'That, I think, was the most exciting thing about this show was seeing Loki try to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose,' Hiddleston explained the real meaning of Loki. 'In the end, it comes back to, like, meaning, and identity, and family which is really what Loki's always been about. It's always been about purpose and family.'

Although Loki doesn't die in the finale, a continuation is unlikely now that he has a new purpose in life. And although it's not exciting to follow, Loki's sacrifice is commendable and makes for a good end to the series.
