The writers try their best to make their main character relatable, but according to fans, they don't succeed.

The CBS series The Big Bang Theory was extremely popular during its existence, in no small part due to its characters that were so well written and developed, they have become archetypes for future comedy series. And among them, Sheldon Cooper was by far the most beloved, as this insufferable nerd evoked lots of laughs with every appearance on the screen.

Unsurprisingly, the new spin-off focusing on Sheldon's younger years has also become a huge hit with fans, and people praise the Young Sheldon writers for finally turning his parents and siblings into fully developed characters.

But while Sheldon's siblings Georgie and Missy gained popularity and fans were drawn to their storylines, Sheldon himself seemed to be getting dull as a character.

In contrast to the first two seasons where the cute little genius was everyone's center of attention, Sheldon has become a more polarizing figure in recent seasons — and some fans even claim that he's now an unsympathetic side character rather than the series' protagonist.

On the other hand, there are viewers who defend the writers, arguing that their rendering of teenage Sheldon is very truthful, and these fans urge Sheldon's detractors to rewatch the first season of The Big Bang Theory to see how annoying Sheldon was at the time.

In a nutshell, the entire original series was about Sheldon becoming a real human being and putting aside his selfishness — so the fact that he became a bit of a jerk by the end of his childhood is not only believable but is a real fact that aligns well with his character in the main series.

Of course, it's a shame that the key protagonist of Young Sheldon has turned into someone so unpleasant, but it seems the writers have decided to stay true to the original show, even if it means that their character will lose some of his fans. Fortunately, Georgie and Missy are still incredible, and the audience can rest assured that they won't change one bit.
