The actress behind Ant-Man's daughter has addressed the rumor.

Summary

  • Marvel is dealing with the aftermath of a hectic 2023.
  • The finale of Marvels foreshadowed a new Marvel project, Young Avengers.
  • Kathryn Newton doesn't know about the future of the movie, although she knew about the reference in advance.

It goes without saying that 2023 was a controversial year for the entertainment industry, but it had an even more mixed effect on Marvel. The studio, known for its massive blockbusters, had four big-screen releases last year, not to mention three TV shows, all of which had varying degrees of success.

From the $849 million hit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to the complete flop The Marvels, which failed to recoup its $220 million budget, the studio that gave us our favorite superheroes had its ups and downs in 2023. But remarkably, Marvel doesn't seem any less enthusiastic about future projects, including a potential Young Avengers installment that was briefly teased in The Marvels. Now, one of the studio's younger stars tapped for the film has weighed in on the matter.

Do you think Young Avengers will ever see the light of day?

Kathryn Newton on Young Avengers' Future

At the end of The Marvels, Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel voices her plan to put together a team of young superheroes. But at this point, the fate of the Young Avengers is rather unclear.

Interestingly, however, Kathryn Newton, who played Ant-Man's daughter Cassie in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantimania, has admitted that she was aware of a possible Young Avengers reference in The Marvels before it premiered. And whether it happens or not, the actress is excited about the possibility.

'In the Marvel universe, you hope for that. You hope to be [a part of a bigger story]. My whole thing is that I grew up watching Iron Man, and I feel like I grew with that character. So my hope for Cassie Lang has always been to grow with my audience, be it the people who are my age and saw [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania], or the people who are just starting to watch Marvel movies at a young age,' Katheryn Newton shared in a recent interview.

'I saw one when I was a little young, but I still love those movies. So if I get an opportunity to continue the story, then that would be so cool to be a part of a generation that's growing up with a film.'

Curb Your Enthusiasm!

Still, the actress doesn't know if Marvel will move forward with Young Avengers. After all, the studio is notorious for keeping its plans in an airtight vault.

'It's such a big part of my life. But they don't really tell you. They tell you an overall [plan], but I don't take anything for granted. I am just trying to get through the day. Let's finish one movie and then let's continue. But I would very much also jump at the opportunity to work with Marvel Studios again,' Newton added.

So far, it doesn't look like Marvel has any plans to make a big screen version of Young Avengers, but it could very well be the next show to replace Loki after its conclusion.
