Is When Calls the Heart Ending With Season 10?
The iconic melodrama is here to stay.
It's hard to believe that Hallmark's When Calls the Heart premiered in 2014. The show, which follows Elizabeth, a young woman from high society who is forced to become a teacher on the Canadian frontier, has felt fresh and compelling for 10 seasons. However, there is growing concern among fans that this may be the melodrama's swan song.
The problem is that the current season's storylines have raised some eyebrows, to say the least. Fans haven't particularly warmed to the idea of Elizabeth and Lucas drifting apart, with Elizabeth getting sweet on Nathan instead. Viewers fear that the writers are planning to end the show with a major heartbreak, but is this really the case?
Bright Future
While some of the plot twists in the current season suggest that Elizabeth's story could be coming to an end, When Calls the Heart remains Hallmark's most popular show. The executives would be shooting themselves in the foot if they shut down this golden goose of a show at this point.
Moreover, the series was officially renewed for an 11th season in March of this year, indicating that the producers were confident in its continued success months before the 10th season even premiered.
Big Plans
Fans need not worry that the upcoming season will be the show's last. Producer Brian Bird recently shared some of his ambitious plans for the future of When Calls the Heart, and some of them border on the insane.
'And I believe that long after the show has ended its run — which we hope is many, many seasons from now; we’re going to try to catch up with The Simpsons, which is in season 42 or something like that, so you got a ways to go [but] we’re going to try…you will still be here,' Bird said.
So it would appear that there is no reason to worry about When Calls the Heart getting canceled anytime soon, seeing how both the writers and the producers seem to still have plenty of energy to keep churning out more episodes for decades to come.
