It looks like The CW might have something compelling on its hands for once.

While The CW has been one of the leading networks for the past decade, it is currently struggling to stay relevant as most of its biggest shows have ended and the new ones are quite inferior in quality. In light of this, The CW's executives have begun to rethink their strategy, canceling many shows with significant audiences in order to cut costs and focus on new endeavors.

And it looks like The Rising might be just the show to mark this change in The CW's history.

First things first — The Rising wasn't actually produced by The CW, as it was created and filmed across the Atlantic by the British Sky Studios. While this may come as a surprise, as The CW rarely acquires the rights to foreign productions, it looks like the executives are trying out their new strategy to attract more viewers to spend time on the network.

The Rising centers on Neve Kelly, a seemingly normal woman who wakes up one day to find that she is actually dead. Instead of giving up hope, Neve decides to use her newfound supernatural powers to find out who killed her and get revenge.

Obviously, this synopsis sounds completely in the vein of other teen shows The CW has produced over the years. But actually, The Rising couldn't be more different from the likes of Riverdale or The Vampire Diaries.

At just eight episodes, The Rising has a much darker, more adult vibe than any other series The CW has ever aired, and it looks like the decision to change the direction of the network is paying off. Even viewers in the UK who have already seen the entire first season of the show are giving it pretty high marks!

'A fabulous tale, following Neve Kelly investigating her own murder. It is well paced, has some surprising twists and turns and is filmed against a beautiful backdrop with some stunning cinematography,' one fan said about the show.

All in all, while longtime fans of The CW are less than thrilled with the producers' move away from the projects that made the network a hit, other people seem to be more pleased with the new strategy, arguing that The CW will no longer be an awards pariah and will attract some new, mature viewers in the process.
