Is Preacher Leaving Virgin River After What Happened in Season 5?

Based on Robyn Carr's eponymous novel series, Virgin River debuted on Netflix in 2018, quickly attracting a substantial fan following. Subsequently, the show was renewed for multiple seasons, the latest of which – Season 5 – premiered in early September.
Throughout its five-season run, Virgin River has explored the stories of its endearing characters. At its heart, the series centers around Melinda Monroe, a recently widowed nurse who relocates to the titular town hoping to start afresh. Yet, the narrative is populated with other interesting figures, such as John Preacher Middleton. After Season 5, however, there are concerns among fans that this fan-favorite might leave the town and the series.
The Good Guy's Secret
Jack Sheridan's close friend from their Marine days and now his colleague, Preacher quickly endeared himself to viewers with his genuine and upright nature. Yet, this very integrity seems to thwart his chances at happiness as each romantic endeavor he pursues falls apart.
A prime example is Preacher's complicated relationship with Paige. It spirals into a dark turn when fleeing from her abusive ex-husband, Paige unintentionally causes his death. Preacher aids her in concealing this grim secret. But with recent wildfires ravaging Virgin River and its adjoining forests, the secret has come to light, which may potentially prompt Middleton to leave Virgin River.
Christmas Specials
In the first part of Virgin River's fifth season, Preacher appears to have discovered contentment with Kaia, a firefighter who played a pivotal role in helping the town. Their whirlwind romance evolved rapidly, which irked several viewers. But given the grim discovery in the season's first-part finale, their relationship might be on shaky ground.
What lies ahead for Preacher remains uncertain. Will he confide in Kaia about the past incident or sever ties? Will he remain in Virgin River, or will he set out anew? Answers to these pressing questions will hopefully be offered on November 30th, when the final two Christmas specials are released.
