Untamed hits Netflix on July 17, promising a six-episode mystery-thriller set against the backdrop of Yosemite National Park — a place full of beauty, danger, and apparently, murder.

The show stars Eric Bana as a National Park Service special agent investigating a brutal death that exposes far darker secrets.

But even though Untamed is billed as a limited series, that may not mean what it used to. Netflix hasn't renewed it yet — or ruled it out. If the show lands with audiences, a second season isn't off the table.

What's Untamed About?

Eric Bana plays Kyle Turner, a special agent with the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch, navigating crime and chaos in the wilderness. When a grisly death is discovered, the investigation pulls Turner deep into Yosemite's shadows — and into his own past.

The cast includes:

  • Eric Bana as Kyle Turner
  • Sam Neill as Paul Souter, Yosemite's long-serving chief park ranger
  • Rosemarie DeWitt as Jill Bodwin, Turner's ex-wife and former park counselor
  • Lily Santiago as Naya Vasquez, a sharp former LAPD cop starting fresh with her son
  • Wilson Bethel as Shane Maguire, a loner and Wildlife Management Officer
  • William Smillie as Bruce Milch, a veteran ranger with an attitude

The showrunners are Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, with Bana also producing alongside John Wells, Erin Jontow, and others.

When and Where to Watch

  • Premiere Date: July 17, 2024
  • Episodes: 6 (all dropping the same day)
  • Streaming: Netflix

Will There Be a Season 2?

Officially, no — not yet. But with the way Netflix plays it, "limited series" usually means "we'll see how the numbers look." And with a cast this stacked and a murder mystery format that easily allows for a new case each season, Untamed could absolutely return if enough people tune in.

For now, it's a standalone. But if Netflix's past habits are any indication, nothing stays limited for long if the viewership is strong.
