Is Chicago Fire Gearing Up to Kill Off Cindy?
Only two episodes remain before Chicago Fire's eleventh season comes to an end.
Although season 12 has not yet been officially announced, fans are already concerned about the future of some of the characters. It seems reasonable to be concerned because even though the employees of Firehouse 51 risk their lives daily, some characters in the series may face a tragic fate.
There has been a lot of news surrounding the show.
First, we know that creator Derek Haas is leaving the franchise about Chicago firefighters, police officers and paramedics. Second, Taylor Kinney, who played Lieutenant Kelly Severide, will be leaving the show, at least temporarily, while Matthew Casey, one of the main characters portrayed by Jesse Spencer, will be returning (at least temporarily as well).
Now there are rumors that the writers are planning to kill off one of the characters who managed to become the "heart and soul" of the series. We're talking about Cindy Herrmann (Robyn Coffin), wife of Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg), senior mentor to the entire 51 Fire Department.
The veteran firefighter's wife has become a fan favorite because, despite adversity, the Hermann family has always represented a stability and comfort not typical of a firefighter's life. In episode 11, it is revealed that Cindy has lung cancer, causing Christopher to blame fate for not being sick himself, since he is the one who is exposed to dangerous chemicals in the air on a daily basis. Even after the surgery to remove a lung tumor, Cindy still requires oncology treatment, including chemotherapy.
And judging by the latest episode, her condition continues to worsen, despite the support of the entire fire department. What fate awaits the character, and will the creators decide to get rid of her?
While it breaks their hearts, fans seem to think that this turn of events was done in the first place to write Christopher off the show:
“If she dies he is going to be a single parent for five kids, more than enough reasons to leave a demanding and dangerous job,” Reddit user Jess_UY25 says.
But no matter what, viewers still hope for Cindy's recovery, because even though this is a fictional character, it is painful to watch a person wither away from cancer. So, we have faith in Cindy and Christopher's strength and look forward to the remaining two episodes of Season 11.
