Hulu’s September 22–28 lineup delivers fresh films plus the two-episode launch of FX’s The Lowdown and the Season 2 premiere of Murder in a Small Town.

Hulu is loading up the last full week of September with a little bit of everything: new FX drama, a returning small-town mystery, a war thriller, and an avalanche of reality and doc-series. Two big TV premieres hit midweek, with a movie drop the day before and a whole lot of genre odds and ends after. Here’s what actually matters, and when.

The headliners

FX’s The Lowdown arrives on Wednesday with a two-episode launch. It centers on Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke), a citizen journalist who is way too committed to the truth to ever sleep peacefully again. If you like dogged investigators who poke at the seams of power until they split, it’s squarely in that lane. Two episodes land out of the gate on September 24.

Also on Wednesday: Murder in a Small Town is back for Season 2. Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) continues using his particular skill set to untangle murders in his coastal community. Small town, lots of secrets, you know the drill — but the show leans on character more than gimmicks, which is why it works.

On Tuesday, you get the week’s movie swing with Valiant One, an action war drama starring Chase Stokes and Lana Condor. Set against the tension between North and South Korea, it follows survivors of a U.S. helicopter crash who have to protect a civilian tech specialist and make it out without any backup from the U.S. military. It’s the kind of contained, boots-on-the-ground scenario that lives or dies on momentum.

Also rolling out

Wednesday also brings Doc Season 2. Then Thursday turns into a full-on reality and docu-dump — new seasons of The Floor, The Golden Bachelor, and Shark Tank, plus everything from cryptid hunting to Gloria Gaynor to Amanda Knox coverage. Friday keeps the pace with Hell’s Kitchen Season 24, Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test Season 4, a new anime season drop, the film premiere of The Man in My Basement, and a couple of comfort-watch movie additions (including both versions of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call). Saturday caps it with true-crime and game show comfort food.

  • Saturday, September 27: Evil Lives Here: The Killer Speaks: Complete Season 2; Celebrity Wheel of Fortune: Season 6 Premiere

It’s a low-key stacked week. FX’s The Lowdown getting a two-episode debut is a nice signal boost, Murder in a Small Town slides back in without fanfare, and Thursday’s lineup is basically cable-era TV compressed into a single day. Also: an unusual number of cryptid shows. Not complaining.
