How & When to Watch 2023 Met Gala Red Carpet Livestream

While the first Met Gala was held in 1948, the themed nights did not begin until 1973, making this year's event the 50th! With not much time left before Met Gala 2023, the intrigue leading up to the event is growing.

As always, this year's brightest red carpet (which isn't always red, by the way) will only be rolled out for the most influential members of high society. But don't worry, even if we don't get a chance to ascend the steps of the Met, we can still watch this year's most glamorous event via live streaming!

The Met Gala is not only a chance for celebrities to show off their gorgeous and unconventional outfits by world-renowned couturiers, it is first and foremost a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. In other words, the event is the main source of the Institute's funding for the upcoming exhibitions, new acquisitions, and other improvements.

Since 1973, each Met Ball has had a theme to set the tone for the occasion. This year's theme is 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,' as the event will be dedicated to the late maestro of fashion and his influence on the industry.

Celebrities are supposed to choose clothing that matches or somehow references the style of the legendary couturier. While there is no strict dress code, attendees are expected to wear designs from Balmain, Patou, Chloé to Chanel, Fendi, and Lagerfeld's own brand. Nonetheless, men will be safe to show up with starched detachable collars, a signature element of Lagerfeld's style.

Be sure to watch the stars hit the red carpet in their incredible outfits on May 1. Met Gala 2023 will be live-streamed at 6:30 p.m. EST on Vogue's official website and social media pages, including Twitter and Instagram.

In addition, if you get the chance to visit New York City, the museum will host a public exhibition on this year's theme from May 5 to July 16.
