Kate Hudson has fans buzzing as she reveals she and Matthew McConaughey have discussed reuniting for a How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel, more than two decades after the beloved rom-com first hit theaters.

So, here we go again: another beloved rom-com from back in the day teetering on the edge of getting one of those 'do we really need this?' sequels. This time, it’s 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.' Yep, the movie where Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey pretended to hate each other (but didn't) and made a lot of people think love could be both chaotic and extremely fashionable. Seriously, those outfits have aged better than most 2000s trends.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey Talk (But Don’t Actually Plan) a Sequel

Kate Hudson was recently making the press rounds for her new movie, 'Song Sung Blue,' and, of course, got asked about the whole sequel thing by Buzzfeed UK. Let's be real: the only thing more unkillable than '90s nostalgia is the urge to reboot any semi-iconic 2000s movie as soon as another one does it. With sequels for 'Freaky Friday' and 'The Devil Wears Prada' in the pipeline, someone had to bring up 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.'

Hudson admitted that she and McConaughey actually have talked about a potential sequel before. And it wasn't just some passing comment. She said:

'You know, it’s one of those things that comes up all the time that even Matthew and I are like, "Should we be doing it?"'

Hugh Jackman, who happened to be sitting in on this conversation (because sure, why not), threw in his two cents: 'That’d be cool.' Even stars can’t resist a good bit of wishful casting, apparently.

Hudson’s official take? 'It just has to be right. And if it is and it happens, then we would probably do it, I think.' But, emphasis here, nothing is happening yet. No script. No green light. Just a lot of 'maybe, if the stars align' kind of chatter.

This Isn’t The First Time She’s Teased It

By the way, Hudson's been giving basically the same answer since at least February this year, telling E! News any follow-up would 'just have to be totally right.' So if you’ve got a time machine or just a really good memory, this might all sound familiar.

She’s even speculated about what her character Andie Anderson would be up to now, saying Andie would still be a little wild and—critically important—still have killer outfits and keep her obsession with Isadora diamonds. Because some things never change.

McConaughey: Still Game, If The Script Works

This whole is-the-sequel-happening guessing game isn’t just Hudson. McConaughey’s also chimed in recently, telling E! News that a part two 'could easily' work if the creative approach was solid. His pitch?

'As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one. And it lasts! People still love that one. I enjoyed that one quite a bit.'

Not exactly a binding commitment, but he's clearly not dismissing the idea.

The Long, Slow Road to Maybe

  • 2003: 'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' opens in theaters and becomes a staple of the genre.
  • Last few years: Hudson and McConaughey field endless questions about a sequel and always say, 'It has to be the right idea.'
  • Early 2024: Hudson tells Andy Cohen she and Matthew would consider it 'if we were into the script.'
  • Mid-2024: Hudson suggests again it's not happening yet, but they haven’t ruled it out.
  • Meanwhile: McConaughey makes it clear he’d do it if the story works.

The Bottom Line

So, what’s the over-under on this sequel actually seeing the light of day? For now, it’s a solid maybe. Everyone seems interested, but nobody’s writing lines or calling wardrobe just yet. If you’re clinging to hope for an official return of Andie, Ben, and all the high-jinks that come with them, keep waiting—but maybe don’t hold your breath.
