How Shannen Doherty Really Feels About Controversial Charmed Reboot
The original Charmed star has shared her thoughts on the lacklustre reboot of the iconic series.
The tale of three sisters who discover their witchcraft powers and choose to use them for the greater good captivated audiences in the late 1990s. Charmed, the iconic TV series, was one of the most prominent teen-oriented shows at the time.
More than 15 years after its conclusion, people still look back on the show with affection, considering it one of the defining series of their childhood.
However, when The CW launched a lacklustre and uninspired reboot in 2018, fans of the original were left disappointed, accusing the network of tarnishing the legacy of their beloved series.
Amidst this controversy, many wonder what Shannen Doherty, one of the stars of the original Charmed, thinks about the reboot.
During a panel at 90s Con in Hartford, Doherty shared her experiences filming Charmed and brought up the reboot, prompting some audience members to boo loudly, visibly irritating the actress. Despite having no involvement with The CW's reimagining of Charmed, Doherty remains personally invested in the series.
“I've met a lot of people that have bonded just like all of you have bonded, right where this Charmed got you through a lot of life experiences [and] brought you and your family close to get closer together, there's a whole other generation that felt the same thing with the new Charmed… I applaud them for supplying a lot of jobs. And they're incredibly nice people,’ Doherty said.
Although most fans disagree with Doherty's take on the new Charmed, regarding it as a low-budget and unengaging flop, they still respect her opinion. Many argue that if an original cast member supports the reboot, there must be something to it.
And while the first season of The CW's Charmed reboot came in for a lot of flak after its initial release, the show managed to stay on the air for four full seasons, much to the surprise of fans who were confident it would not last more than one.
