How old are the actors on the show, and how well do their real ages match those of their characters?
Frankly, we did not expect the teen mystery drama Cruel Summer to feature such gruesome content involving the incredibly creepy but more than real issues of the grooming and abuse of minors. Nevertheless, the first season was quite entertaining, albeit in a somewhat macabre kind of way, and the finale neatly wrapped up all the story arcs.
And now, season 2 is here! This time, the setting has moved from a 1990s Texas town to the coastal community of Chatham, Washington, in the 1999-2000 timeframe. Three new friends now find themselves at the centre of a murder mystery. But while many of the characters in this season are high school students, how old are the actors playing them?
Let's check the real ages of the Cruel Summer Season 2 cast, including those who play adults of indeterminate age.
8. Lexi Underwood
The actress plays Isabella LaRue, the daughter of some diplomats, who is spending a year in Chatham with the Landry family. According to the plot, she is 17-18 during the events of season 2.
The actress is currently 20 years old: close enough for government work.
7. Lisa Yamada
Yamada plays Parker Tanaka, a musician who becomes friends with Isabella and Megan.
Parker is about the same age as Isabella, while Lisa is now 20, not exactly a teenager anymore, but barely legal, as they say in the industry.
6. Sadie Stanley
The Kim Possible star plays Megan Landry, a talented programmer whose family takes Isabella into their home.
This character is supposed to be 17-18, however, Sadie is already 21, meaning that, unlike her character, she can legally buy alcohol in most jurisdictions.
5. Griffin Gluck
Griffin Gluck became famous for his role in both instalments of Tall Girl. In the series, he appears as Luke Chambers, Megan's BFF, who gets stuck in a love triangle with her and Isabella.
Like Megan and Isabella, Luke is about 17-18. However, Griffin is already 22, meaning he's really pushing it.
4. Braeden de la Garza
Braeden de la Garza appears as Luke's older brother and Parker's boyfriend, Brent Chambers.
We don't know how old Brent is supposed to be exactly, but seeing how he's Luke's older brother, Braeden, who is 22, seems like a close enough match for his character age-wise.
3. Kadee Strickland
Kadee Strickland, known for her roles in the drama Private Practice and the horror film The Grudge, plays Debbie Landry, Megan's hardworking, wealthy mother. We're entering the adult of indeterminate age territory here, where age ceases to matter that much unless you're on the wrong side of 60 or the right side of 30.
At age 47, Kadee is smack in the middle of the age ballpark, so she's cool.
2. Paul Adelstein
Strickland's Private Practice co-star, Paul Adelstein, appears as the town's powerful realtor and Luke and Brent's father, Steve Chambers.
Once again, we're talking a middle-aged adult character, and Paul Adelstein, a youthful 54-year-old, is perfect for this role.
1. Sean Blakemore
Sean Blakemore plays Parker's adoptive father and Chatham's Sheriff Jack Myer, who is trying to solve the murder mystery.
Sean is 55, and seeing how we previously agreed that being aged between 30 and 60 qualifies you to play any adult of indeterminate age, complaining about this casting choice wouldn't be fair.
