Hotel Transylvania 5 Moves Forward as Star Shares Exciting Update
Hotel Transylvania 5 is officially moving forward, with a franchise star confirming production is underway and hinting at when fans can expect the spooky comedy’s return—marking the first concrete update in two years.
So, remember the 'Hotel Transylvania' franchise? (Of course you do, those movies are everywhere.) Just when you thought Dracula and his monster buddies had finally checked out, it looks like we’re officially getting a fifth film. Yep, Hotel Transylvania 5 is now a thing, and there's actually some real movement on it.
Keegan-Michael Key Spills the Beans
This isn’t some wild rumor from a random corner of the internet—Keegan-Michael Key himself, who voices Murray the Mummy, let it slip during an interview at the Golden Globes. He said he’s about to start work on the new film. If anyone knows what’s going on, it’s probably one of the main stars.
Before anybody gets too excited, keep in mind that nobody at Sony Pictures Animation has come out with an official announcement yet. No release window, no new story details, nothing about who else from the massive cast is coming back. But with Key saying he’s jumping into production soon, it wouldn’t be totally out there to pencil in 2027 as a possible release date.
This Franchise Refuses to Die
In case you lost track (because honestly, there’s a lot), here’s what’s happened so far:
- The original 'Hotel Transylvania' landed back in 2012
- Three sequels followed, along with a few short films, a bunch of video games, and a TV series
- The first three films together hauled in about $1.3 billion worldwide
- The fourth movie, 'Hotel Transylvania: Transformania', skipped theaters and went straight to Amazon Prime Video in 2022
So yeah, it's not exactly a small franchise — Sony isn’t just milking this thing, it’s running a full dairy.
What Pushed Part 5 Into Gear?
A couple of years ago, Genndy Tartakovsky (the guy who directed the first three films and co-wrote the third and fourth) was already hinting that Sony would keep Hotel Transylvania rolling as long as fans wanted it. His words at the time, to paraphrase, were basically: these things do well, especially that last one on Amazon, so why stop now?
Apparently, Sony saw the Prime Video numbers and agreed. Can't argue with the logic.
A New Spin-Off Series on the Way Too
If you thought that was it, surprise: there's another 'Hotel Transylvania' spinoff series coming, this time called 'Motel Transylvania.' Tartakovsky is involved again, and the focus shifts to Mavis and Dracula as they move to California to start a new monster/human “resort.”
The show was supposed to drop on Netflix in 2025, but surprise, it’s apparently getting bumped to 2027. So, fans will have both a new movie and a new series possibly dropping around the same time and, honestly, that’s a lot of animated vampires.
Nobody’s Closing the Coffin Lid Yet
So there you go — Hotel Transylvania 5 is not just talk anymore. We don't have a trailer, or plot details, or even a definite Theater vs. Streaming answer yet, but with Keegan-Michael Key starting work soon and another series in the pipeline, it’s clear Sony plans to keep this franchise alive for at least a few more years.
As always, when more details drop, you'll hear about it here (because, let’s face it, you’re not getting your Hotel Transylvania updates from anywhere cooler).
