Hollywood's Good Guys: 5 Celebs with Surprisingly Scandal-Free Careers
Fame has not gone to these heads!
Some celebs seem unable to keep away from controversy and negative headlines. Of course, they’re the ones people are also talking about and digging up scandals on. Others come across as just nice people who get on with life and just happen to be in the public eye.
Here, (in no particular order) we celebrate some of those who fall into the latter category:
Saoirse Ronan
First up, it’s the Irish American star of Mary Queen of Scots and Little Women. Born in Brooklyn to Irish parents, Ronan has dual US and Irish citizenship. Her family moved to Dublin when Saoirse was 3, and then to County Carlow where she first took up acting and did most of her growing up.
She steers clear of social media and is an ambassador for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Olivia Colman
Bonkers but lovely by all accounts. She has never really embraced the celebrity lifestyle and comes across as someone from a working-class background who understands how fortunate she is to make a decent living doing what she loves.
Her work includes a variety of movies and shows from Peep Show to The Iron Lady and The Crown.
Colman is president of UNICEF, patron of the Anthony Nolan blood cancer charity, and has spoken out on issues such as homelessness and violence against women.
Cillian Murphy
A man with no interest in living the high-life, Murphy is the antithesis of Thomas Shelby (who he played in Peaky Blinders).
Despite an acting career spanning four decades, he has maintained the friendships he had before becoming famous – and is very happy keeping out of the spotlight. He has campaigned against homelessness and is a patron of the UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre at the National University of Ireland Galway.
Steve Buscemi
With roles as varied as Boardwalk Empire’s Nucky Thompson and the voice of Randall in Monsters Inc, Buscemi has a long and varied career.
Prior to acting, he served as a firefighter in New York. Following the 9/11 attacks, he went back and volunteered as a firefighter, doing 12-hour shifts to help out. In later years, he campaigned against plans to close New York firehouses.
He was given the ‘key to Brooklyn’ in 2021.
David Tennant
An incredible acting talent and (it seems) an all round good egg. Named the Most Popular Actor at the National Television Awards award in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010, he was also voted Greenest Star on the Planet in 2008.
The former Dr Who actor prefers to keep his private life out of the public eye. He’s presented Comic Relief and made frequent appearances on panel shows like Have I Got News For You as well as chat shows over the years – and you have to imagine the reason he has avoided scandal is because there isn’t any.
