Ransom Canyon is trimming its order for Season 2: star Minka Kelly says the Netflix Western romance will return with fewer episodes after its April 17, 2025 debut. Created by April Blair and based on Jodi Thomas’ books, the series has drawn mixed reviews.

Quick update from the canyon: Ransom Canyon is coming back, but Season 2 is going to be a little leaner. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Season 2 trimmed, on purpose

Minka Kelly, who plays Quinn O'Grady (and you might remember her from Euphoria), says the next batch is shorter than last time. She was out promoting her upcoming movie Champagne Problems when she told Entertainment Tonight that the new season is shooting now and will run eight episodes instead of ten.

"We're shooting it right now... It's eight episodes now instead of ten, so they've really tightened up all the storylines. It's just jam-packed with so much. There's a lot more levity this season, too, which I love."

She also teased some new characters she thinks fans are going to latch onto, and said she might even prefer this season to the first. Hard to argue with a tighter cut if it means less filler and more payoff.

How Season 1 performed

The Western romantic drama debuted on Netflix on April 17, 2025 and immediately climbed to the top of the platform's Top 10. Critics were lukewarm (45% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer), but viewers clearly showed up (73% audience score). Netflix took the hint and officially renewed the series in June 2025.
