Hijack Season 3: Is It Cleared for Takeoff or Grounded for Good?
Will Hijack take off for Season 3? After a white-knuckle Season 2 landing, Apple TV+ hasn’t greenlit or grounded the thriller — here’s the latest on its future.
If you just blasted through Hijack Season 2 and are waiting for Apple to say something, anything, about Season 3, here’s where things stand right now.
Where things stand
- Apple TV+ has yet to make a decision on Hijack Season 3. No renewal, no cancellation, just a holding pattern.
- Season 2 debuted January 14, 2026 and wrapped recently. Since the launch, Apple hasn’t weighed in on future installments.
- Renewals tend to ride on reception and viewership. Across both seasons, Hijack has pulled strong reviews and healthy audience numbers.
- Fans are feeling optimistic, but a pass remains on the table until Apple makes the call.
What the creative side is saying
Creator and executive producer Jim Field Smith sounded very open to another round shortly before Season 2 rolled out. He kept the focus on the work in front of him, but he didn’t hide his appetite for more.
"All I can do when I’m telling a story is to focus on telling that story to the best of my ability. That’s what I’m continuing to do right now with Season 2, and we’re looking forward to getting it out there."
"And look, could Sam Nelson find himself having another of the worst days of his life? I’m sure he could. He seems to be a guy that stumbles into bad luck, and I love working with Idris, and whether it was more of this show or something else, I’m sure the collaboration will lead to more."
Quick refresher on Hijack
The thriller follows Idris Elba as Sam Nelson, a sharp corporate negotiator who leans on persuasion and strategy to defuse a mid-flight hijacking. The ensemble includes Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Albrecht Schuch, Christian Näthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, and more.
The read
We’re in wait-and-see mode. The show has the numbers and the buzz, and Jim Field Smith clearly isn’t done with Sam’s very bad days. If Apple likes what it sees in the Season 2 data, Season 3 feels within reach. Until then, consider Hijack officially pending.
