Here's Why Some Bridgerton Fans Hate Polin So Much (Hint: They Actually Have a Reason)
Brace yourselves, glorious nobles and gentry, Season 3 of Bridgerton is coming!
The show will focus on the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which follows the development of the relationship between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington (or should we say Polin?).
However, not all fans of the drama surrounding London's high society during the Regency era are enthusiastic about this affair. Although everyone loves both of them separately, people have something to say about why their romance is quite problematic.
"In the show, I find it awkward that she fawns over Colin's every action and is so devoted to someone that doesn't think of her that way," Reddit user Less_Tie7414 says.
Penelope has always supported Colin, even at the cost of her relationships with family and friends. For example, when Marina Crane, her friend and cousin, wanted Colin to marry her to avoid the shame of being a single mother (oh, those horrible mores of the early 19th century!), Penelope released this information as Lady Whistledown, her alter ego.

And what did Penelope receive from Colin in return? Though he didn't know she could hear, the third son of the Bridgerton family simply laughed off the idea of courting Penelope in front of the group of men.
"I don't like how the love she's always had for him caused her to be a push over to his every whim once he snapped out of it. And that proposal of his? Detestable. After the ways he's hurt her he thought he had a right to snatch her up without effort? Like she owed him? No," Redditor PiffleSpiff complains.
In other words, Penelope's low self-esteem and Colin's mental blocks and fearful-avoidant type of attachment cannot lead to a healthy relationship between these two. But is that so?

Many fans have noted that Colin simply can't (or doesn't know how to) reflect on his feelings yet, although both acknowledge their affection developed as a result of their long friendship. Over time, however, we will likely see them get to know each other (and themselves) better, with all their pros and cons, and develop increasingly strong feelings.
