It looks like the reality show star was grossly underpaid for her work.

Lifetime's reality show Dance Moms was a huge hit when it debuted in 2011, as viewers loved following the budding careers of several children in Abby Lee Miller's dance troupe.

While many contestants went on to become real stars in the dance world, only one of them managed to break out into true superstardom — Maddie Ziegler.

The young celebrity has already starred in several major Hollywood productions, including the title role in Sia's Music and a supporting role in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story.

But putting her current success and wealth aside, fans are wondering how much money Maddie made during her years on Dance Moms.

When Dance Moms premiered, Maddie was just eight years old, and she was a major part of the project until 2016, when her collaboration with Sia on a series of music videos finally freed her from Miller and her reality show. However, Maddie still spent most of her childhood in front of the cameras on the Lifetime reality series, and according to some reports, she was severely underpaid for her efforts.

Reportedly, Maddie was paid somewhere around $2,000 per episode, which is a pretty big number for a teenage girl, but still nowhere near enough to adequately reflect the amount of work she did for the show.

Maddie starred in 161 episodes of Dance Moms, which means that she earned approximately $322,000 for her entire tenure on the show — and that's including her agent's cut!

Fans of the actress are really angry at Lifetime for this, arguing that the network practically used the young star to promote their show while paying her peanuts.

The network should have recognized Maddie's role on the project and raised her salary after a few seasons, people claim. It's no wonder she decided to leave the show as soon as she could.

Fortunately, Maddie Ziegler was able to use Dance Moms as a stepping stone to develop her career, and now the young star's net worth sits at the comfortable $5 million mark.
